Architecture + Design Photography Workshop
When: Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, 8am-6pm PST

This is a two-day workshop in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tony Roslund and Barry MacKenzie will be instructing an interactive class on residential architecture and design photography.
After hosting five sold out workshops since 2016, we've received continuous interest from photographers around the globe asking when and where another workshop would happen. With that said, we’re super excited to announce the first workshop of our 2019 series will be taking place in Scottsdale, AZ!
WHAT WILL BE COVERED:
The class will cover composition and lighting techniques including the use of modifiers, polarization, and common grip tools. Students will receive guidance on pricing, marketing, and communicating with clients. Students will participate in live shoots at private residential property, concentrating on common living spaces and exterior. Tony and Barry will identify and teach the key elements that define and separate real estate and architecture photography, providing attendees with a plethora of knowledge to boost their career in architecture and design photography.
Students will be divided into teams for a hands-on opportunity to use the techniques and equipment demonstrated by Tony and Barry. The following lists identify a portion of the curriculum the duo will present during the workshop:
Gear talk (Lenses, Lights, Modifiers, Camera Support, Tethering, etc)
Using off camera flash (both speed lights and higher powered monolights)
Finding amazing compositions (avoiding tangents and overlaps, best focal length and camera height, etc)
Advanced retouching to give your images accurate white balance, color and snap!
Estimating and pricing (including cost sharing and licensing)
Dealing with curve balls (reflections, color contamination, rogue cats, etc)
Working with commercial clients (Interior Designers, Builders, Contractors, etc)
A bunch of other cool shit
After hours, students will have an opportunity to participate in group portfolio reviews with Tony & Barry. Get your websites/portfolios dialed and make sure you have a thick skin. *Feelings may be hurt.
ABOUT THE LOCATIONS
We've secured two homes in the area that are well designed and have magazine quality image potential! Over the years we've had the good fortune to shoot a bunch of amazing projects throughout North America and we can say with confidence that these homes offer a wide variety teaching points and students will have the opportunity to capture some kick ass images for their portfolio!

TRAVEL & LODGING
We have pre-negotiated a block of rooms at a special rate with the Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town. All classroom and post-production work will take place at shooting locations. All transportation to and from shoot locations will originate from this hotel. The workshop wrap party will take place at or near this hotel. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is the nearest airport to the Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town. Transportation to and from the airport is available via a 20 minute taxi ride or rideshare car service.
WHAT TO BRING
Limited cameras, tripods, lighting equipment, and computers will be available for the workshop. Students are encouraged to bring their own camera and tripod. They may also bring additional equipment such as lighting, computers, etc. for familiarity. Something to take notes with, such as a computer or a notepad, is recommended. There may be an opportunity for students to do some post-production in the classroom, so bring a Wacom tablet if you have one. Gifts and bribes for the instructors are always welcome.
